BERG Off-Road is a South African manufacturer of premium off-road caravans, based in Koedoespoort, Pretoria. Founded in 2023, BERG builds every caravan from scratch at its Pretoria facility using aluminium frames, composite body panels, and heavy-duty Burquip suspension. In under three years the company has delivered over 62 units to customers across South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe.

Every BERG is designed and manufactured in Pretoria, South Africa. We do not import shells or outsource production. The full build — frame, body, electrical, plumbing, and fitout — happens at 15 Rooibok Avenue, Koedoespoort Industrial.

BERG was founded by three engineers: FC Buys (Cornell MEng, serial entrepreneur), Schalk Meintjes (mechanical engineer with 20+ years in heavy manufacturing), and Dietrich Schulenburg (commercial and financial director). Together they bring over 80 years of combined manufacturing and engineering experience.

BERG is the only off-road caravan with a full indoor bathroom — toilet, shower, and basin — in the space behind the pull-out kitchen. When the kitchen slides out, the space it vacates becomes a fully private bathroom. The design is protected by South African patent application No. 2023/04117. No competitor can legally replicate it.

Yes. Every BERG — the CX3, CX4, and CX6 — includes a full indoor bathroom with a toilet, shower, and basin as standard. The bathroom is in the space behind the pull-out kitchen and includes a retractable roof for open-air showers. It is not an optional extra.

BERG offers three layouts. The CX3 sleeps 2–3. The CX4 sleeps 3–4. The CX6 sleeps 4–6. All models use hotel-quality multi-layer mattresses as standard.

The CX3 weighs approximately 1 000 kg, the CX4 approximately 1 200 kg, and the CX6 approximately 1 150 kg. All models have a GVM of 1 800 kg. Typical towing weight is between 1500 kg and 1700 kg.

The typical tow hitch weight is between 200 kg and 300 kg., to ensure stability.

All three models are 5.3 m long, 2 m wide, and 2.2 m high in tow mode.

Every BERG is built on a heavy-duty galvanised ladder-frame chassis with a 2.5-ton Burquip solid beam axle, 10-blade leaf springs, Monroe shock absorbers, and 16 mm u-bolts. BERG is the only South African off-road caravan manufacturer using this specific Burquip 16mm heavy-duty axle setup.

All models come standard with 265/70R17 General Grabber AT tyres on 17" steel rims with a lockable spare wheel included.

All three share the same chassis, suspension, bathroom, kitchen, and electrical system. The difference is the sleeping layout. The CX3 has a semi-island queen bed for two, with an optional rear single. The CX4 has an XL queen pull-out bed and a convertible dinette/three-quarter bed for up to four. The CX6 has an XL king pull-out bed with two single beds underneath for up to six sleepers.

The Yellow Chassis Edition is a premium upgrade package available across the CX range. It includes a yellow powder-coated chassis, carbon fibre body panels, 285/70R17 Maxxis RAZR AT tyres on black alloy rims, a 3 000VA Victron inverter, 314Ah lithium battery, 9 000BTU air conditioner, and National Luna 90L fridge-freezer as standard. Starting from R949 950.

The CX3, CX4, and CX6 all start from R649 950 VAT inclusive. The Yellow Chassis Edition starts from R949 950. All models include over R100 000 worth of accessories as standard — no upselling required.

Every BERG includes: 270° awning in a solid aluminium box, 30L drawer fridge, Cadac two-plate gas stove, Smeg stainless steel sink, hot and cold water, hotel-quality mattresses and fitted sheets, full cutlery and crockery for six, 150L water tank, Hansen geyser, 100Ah lithium battery, 1 600VA Victron inverter, solar charge controller, 220V and 12V outlets, LED lighting, Monroe shock absorbers, 265/70R17 General Grabber AT tyres, sand ladders, levelling jacks, spare wheel, and a steel spade. All standard.

Solar panels are an optional extra. The solar charge controller (50A Victron) is included as standard, so the system is solar-ready. Roof-mounted panels and 400W foldable panels are available as upgrades.

At approximately 1 ton tare weight, the BERG CX3 and CX6 tow comfortably behind most standard SUVs — a Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest, Nissan Patrol, Land Cruiser 200, or similar — without a heavy-duty tow bar upgrade. The CX4 at 1 200 kg tare suits larger SUVs and bakkies. Always confirm your vehicle's tow rating against the caravan's GVM of 1 800 kg.

In South Africa, towing a trailer with a GVM over 750 kg requires a Code EB licence (light motor vehicle with trailer). The BERG has a GVM of 1 800 kg, so a Code EB licence is required. If you only hold a Code B licence, you will need to upgrade.

Yes. Most diesel double-cab bakkies — including the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, and Nissan Navara — are well-suited to towing a BERG. A DC-to-DC charging system is available as an optional extra to charge the BERG's lithium battery from your vehicle's alternator while driving.

Every BERG comes standard with a 100Ah lithium battery, 1 600VA Victron inverter, 50A solar charge controller, and 220V mains connection. This is sufficient for lighting, device charging, the fridge, and the water pump. Add roof-mounted or foldable solar panels and you can run indefinitely without a generator or mains connection.

All standard models include a 1 600VA Victron inverter/charger. An upgrade to a 3 000VA Victron unit is available as an optional extra, and is standard on the Yellow Chassis Edition.

Yes. Every BERG includes a 220V inlet caravan plug, 15m extension cord, and DB box for mains hookup, with three 220V outlets inside.

A 9 000BTU 220V air conditioner is an optional extra on all models. It is standard on the Yellow Chassis Edition.
